El Cartel es una de las mejores producciones Televisivas Colombianas en los ultimos años.
Mucho mas que una telenovela, la historia de "El Cartel" es basada en los eventos reales narrados el libro "El Cartel de los sapos," escrito por Andres Lopez Lopez cuando estaba sirviendo su sentencia por narcotrafico en los Estados Unidos.
Lo fascinante de esta serie, es que no es un invento de ficcion, La mayoria de los eventos que ocurren en la serie ocurrieron en la vida real y todos los personajes son basados en miembros de el cartel de Cali, Medellin, el Norte de el Valle, La policia y las autodefensas. La revista Colombiana Semana publico una guia que hace un paralelo entre los personajes de el Cartel y la realidad. La guia puede ser facilmente encontrada en el internet haciendo esta busqueda "Guía para entender a los sapos"
Los actores y la produccion de El Cartel no tiene nada que envidiarle a cualquier serie Norteamericana. La serie fue filmada en varias ciudades Colombianas, en Mexico, Panama y en Miami.
La produccion de los DVDs es muy alta. La serie viene en una caja con dos libros con 6 DVDs cada uno. El DVD #13 "Detras de las Escenas" del cartel viene en un DVD suelto. Cada DVD contiene 4 episodios (4 horas). La calidad de la produccion de los DVDs (menus, imagenes, sonido) es muy alta.
Mis unicas quejas son las siguientes:
1-Al parecer los DVD probablemente fueron fisicamente producidos en China y por eso algunos no pueden ser leidos por ciertos DVD players.
2-Caracol cometio un error grandisimo en no incluir subtitulos en Ingles para los que no son hispanoparlantes .
De todas maneras, esta serie es altamente recomendada!

Caracol ya esta presentando en la television Colombiana, La nueva serie "El Cartel 2" con algunos de los mismos personajes y actores de "El Cartel"

Great series. You really need to speak Spanish to enjoy this though, and better to see it with a Colombian that can explain all the parallels to the real cartels.
I originally bought some piratas while visiting Bogota. They were crappy so I wanted to get a good set, so I bought them here on Amazon. The reviews all said what a pity they didn't put subtitles in English, so I was prepared for that. What I didn't consider, however, was that they didn't put ANY subtitles at all!
As an average Spanish speaker, I was hoping to read the Spanish and follow it better. This series could really be a useful teaching tool with all the slang and Colombian Spanish particulars. So that was my biggest disappointment. C'mon Caracol and think about business!! These Colombian series ROCK! I definately believe there would be a market for this and many other Colombian shows if there were subtitles!!

This show is sooooooo gooood that although i had already downloaded it from the internet i wanted to get the DVDs so i can keep in my collection and watch over and over again.....
It is a great tale that has a little bit of everything, action, money, drugs, women, treason, government corruption, etc.... everything that you can think of comes out on this show.
I dont normally write reviews, but this show deserves the publicity.

This is the complete version of the Colombian TV Series "El Cartel de los Sapos". A bundle of 12 DVD (Part 1 and 2), plus a sample DVD of special fetures.
This is the Hispanic version of "The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Green".
The Plot:
This is the TV Series of a book written in jail by a former drug-lord. It tells the story of the drug business in Colombia after the death of Pablo Escobar and how the supply chain is maintained by new bosses once one is killed.
The Pros:
- This is the complete serie (Part One and Two) with 13 DVD. Please note that there is a new part comming up but it won't be filmed until November 2009 as Caracol says. So when you see DVDs of part one and two these refer to the whole series that was
aired by Caracol in Colombia and elsewhere.
- Region free DVDs.
- It was said that the quality of the DVDs where
not good. Mine worked perfect.
- This is not a typical "novela", these is the story of real people in the drug business.
The Cons:
- Just one language track in this version (Spanish) and no English subtitles available.
- The first chapter is slow and looks like a typical "novela" but when you start identiying whom they are really talking about you get stick to it.

The complete series in 12 discs. It is the best series i've ever seen. Its the true story of drug dealers and how they all met their demise. Theres a lot of action and suspense!!
