 3 Sections: Lima, Cuzco, the Sacred ValleyDec 27, 2005

There three sections: Lima (24 minutes), Cuzco (22 minutes), El Valle Sagrado (28 minutes) This is NOT what the "menu" would lead you to expect.
Lima spends time on the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, Bolivar and San Martin, and then gets into a LOT of churches. It definately seems to think the only important thing in the country are the Spanish and their descendants (well, maybe some other Europeans). The only non-European is shown begging by one of the churches.
Cuzco has a lot of shots of the original inhabitants, simply because there are a lot of them there. There are a lot of shots of the city itself, and the markets. There is a shot of a pair of street musicians and the music continues under the next bit of narration - remember, things like Social Security are only for the invaders and their descendants. Everyone else has to earn a living somehow. There is an excessive quantity of time spent on the huge edifaces the Spanish built on the foundations of the earier Houses of Worship, but that's where the people who made the DVD were coming from. There is also a section of a ceremony at Sacsaywaman, and a short bit with the camera at an angle that is not the point of view of any of the participants but appeals to European males like the cameraman.
El Valle Sagrado (tracks 3-12) starts with the descendants of the original inhabitants harvesting grain and taking care of llamas, and takes a look at classical goldwork and pottery. Then there is a good series of glimpses of towns between Cuzco and Machu Picchu - it is done as if it is a straight trip, but a check of the map says the camera and crew made two day-trips on different roads. Then there is the train to Machu Picchu, and a look around. Narration includes info on the discovery of Machu Picchu. This section focuses more on what there is to see, rather than making a tour of churches.
Narration in Spanish; subtitles in Spanish, English, French, Italian. On the computer, Japanese subtitles are listed, altho don't seem to work. Good for learning Spanish.
This is the same DVD as the "Enhanced CD", which is actually two separate discs, the DVD, and a CD of Peruvian Valses - if you like them (I don't especially).

"Women of Grace"
The dvd was alright if you are really interested in church history in Peru. I was looking for a dvd with more information about the land and the people from a more cultural perspective(hearing them speak ,ect.) I wasn't interested in seeing the inside of all the churches..., and hearing about the schools, and government,ect. It gets better at the end, showing how some of the native people live. For the price, overall, its worth taking a look at.
