series review, not DVD reviewNov 26, 2004

"Anime fan"
ok, so, what to say about this series. the words "awesome", "outstanding", and "excellent" come to mind.
Narumi Ayumu-kun feels that he lives in his brother Kiyotaka's shadow. He doesn't try very hard at things because he feels that everything does comes out as an imitation of his brother. However, Ayumu's brother went missing two years ago, off to search out the truth behind the mystery of the Blade Children. When Ayumu meets up with the Blade Children on his own, he is tested. Why? Because according to the Blade Children themselves, Kiyotaka believes that Ayumu is the key to saving the cursed Blade Children. Can he really do it?
This series is a great detective series. Anyone who enjoys(or has even just seen) the series Detective Conan, I mean "Case Closed", will be able to enjoy this series. It covers topics like recovering from a loss(confidence-wise or other), believing in yourself and your convictions, believing in and helping others, and finding a place in the world to be happy.
Sounds sappy and sentimental right? Well, yeah, that part did, lol, but here's another part! The clues and cleverness are all there! Several times I found myself laughing because the sneaky part of my brain figured out the trick before the character did. ^_^ It was fun. ^_^ And, from a girl's perspective, the guys in this show are great-looking, or perhaps the word "hot" is better, lol. On the other hand, for you guys, the girls in this series are just a cool! I have great respect for Hiyono(go episode 7!). Her skills and personality are crucial throughout the series. ^_^
Ok, a few last details. The opening is addictively upbeat, fun, and cool. Hiyono's puppet-show episode previews are funny. And remember, for all you aspiring anime otaku's out there, it may be dubbed, but don't forget to watch it in the original Japanese(subtitled of course), at least once. The dub can be good, but the original will always be better! And for people who are already anime fans, guess what?! That whole "one outfit per character" rule? Doesn't apply! They actually change outfits, lol.

Slightly Better Than First VolumeMay 02, 2006

"Author of the Heart"
Spiral, Vol. 2: Disarming Fate contains episodes six through nine of the slow-moving anime series about a mysterious and vicious group of teens called the Blade Children, and the young detective type and his girl Friday who are trying to get the Blade Children to help him find out why his brother disappeared.
The brooding Ayumu and the chirrupy Hiyono try to trip up Rio, the youngest but probably most deadly of the Blade Children. The main discovery Ayumu makes is that the Blade children can be detected by an X-ray showing they are missing a rib. The "action" is non-existent in this volume. It is all talking; talking back and forth. Basically, the formula is that the opponents will endlessly go back and forth trying to figure out the other's motives out loud. It made me writhe in frustration.
The only good part about this DVD is Ayumu's sister-in-law Narumi. She is my favorite character. There is some insinuation of romance or sexual attraction between Narumi and her young brother-in-law. Hot; I can see it happening.

"VAN IS MINE"
ok, here's the deal, great series, good music, good plot, awesome characters. i just finished watching spiral vol 2, disarming fate. i was really enjoying it, the girl pulled through (and in anime this can be rare...) the boy is hot and getting over his lack of confidence in himself, and the blade children are going one on one with ayumu. i was sooooo into it! i was watching the fourth episode on the dvd and was thinking to myself, "wow, what a cliffhanger, thank god there's five episodes on here. (the last volume did)" i get to the closing song and pick up the changer to skip it and get to the episode with antisispation and...!!! THERE'S ONLY FOUR FRICKEN EPISODES ON THIS VOLUME!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE FOR THIS!!! NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MARCH FIRST TO SEE HOW THIS WORKS OUT!!!!!! *gibberish mixed with mumbling and swearwords that dont' exist* WHY????? WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME????!!!!! (...moving on) anyway, if you like mystery, hot guys, cute girls, and action with a twist of comedy, this is the series for you. i'm really happy with it and i plan on buying the whole series. (it's only about 26 episodes i'm told) there is just one thing buging me.... what are the blade children? 0.o why hasn't this question been answered yet??? so many questions. -_- oh well, i'll just have to watch, and so do you! though.. if you reach the end of the second volume and want to A. throw the remote into the screen of your tv/ B. kill the person who decided this dvd would only have 4 episodes/ or C. commit suicide because the presure is too much for you and you can't handle the greatness of this series, then this series is not for you. (the first two are ok though ^_~) well, have a good one. Laters
