Description:

In 301 A.D., Armenia became the first nation to adopt Christianity. Commemorating this anniversary 1,700 years later, The Armenians: A Story of Survival, tells the tale of these fascinating and tenacious people. This compelling documentary explores the journey and struggle of the Armenian people - from their humble beginnings near the Middle East through their Christian conversion in 301, their near elimination during the first Genocide of the 20th century to the birth of the Armenian nation. Shot in twelve countries and narrated by Olympia Dukakis, The Armenians includes interviews with Nobel Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, author Dr. Robert J. Lifton (The Nazi Doctors), the Head of the Armenian Church Catholicos Karekin II, and the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian. That along with never before seen footage of the Armenians in 1915 and Soviet Armenia makes this documentary a momentus piece on Armenian history. This DVD contains over 20 minutes of bonus footage and interviews not seen in the broadcast.

The Armenians: A Story of Survival is a good introduction to the people and their struggle to survive. Narrated by Olympia Dukakis, this documentary is a fine companion to The Armenian Genocide produced by Two Cats Productions.

This is an excellent history of the Armenian people and their ability to survive despite incredible circumstances over the years. The Armenians always survive and move on with or without a country. Extraordinary. My grandfather survived the Hadjin massacres and made it to America eventually where he raised his family in peace. His attitude says wonders about the Armenian people. He never held anger just made the best that he could and always looked forward.
