Life is peaceful in a small village in the Andean Mountains. The villagers look forward to the wrestling matches "El Cachascãn" held at the village tent coliseum every Saturday. A young priest, Father David arrives in town and is greeted with skepticism by the adults but the children are drawn to him, including Martin, who has dreams about becoming a masked wrestling champion. The village peace is disrupted by a corrupt businessman, whose fighters dominate the ring, especially La Bestia Loca. Out of nowhere, a mysterious new masked fighter, the Argonaut, arrives to challenge La Bestia Loca. The night of the fight brings the village to its edge and the shocking conclusion will change the village forever.

Instead I was treated to a serious portrayal of current life in the Andes.

I was born in Ecuador and grew up in the Andes. Not far from where this movie was filmed. This is a very accurate depiction of Life in the Andes.

The acting is more suited for theater than film, but it is consistent with what is expected in hard drama of this nature for the intended national audience.

I highly recommend this movie to audiences interested in culture and the Andean way of life. Especially considering that for some of the actors this may not be fiction.
